About Mills

17 year old Mills Brown, from Florence, SC, makes a big splash with wearable art.

From a very young age, Mills has enjoyed expressing her creativity. In elementary school, she loved writing stories and illustrating them. After school she often spent time making jewelry, decorating her room and coloring. She took art lessons through the recreation department for several years, but became re-inspired recently when friends and relatives began commissioning her to paint canvases for their children's rooms and when several of her pieces were selected to show at a local art gallery.

Her latest work in a unique style of colorful ink drawings began as simple doodles for her friends at school. When one of her drawings caught the eye of a local retailer and his manufacturer's sale rep., Mills was contacted about designing a collection of T-shirts for sale. Within a few weeks, copyrights were filed, contracts were signed and production had begun on Mills Brown Ink T-shirts and decals through Wactor and Associates out of Orangeburg, SC.

Her drawing style, which began as a fun way to camouflage messages to her friends in elaborate, colorful line-work, has evolved to include more complicated hidden images and designs imbedded in the drawings so that they are only recognized with a closer look. While her work has been described as having Egyptian, Celtic or Native American influences, she draws only from her own imagination, without consciously evoking a particular style. Her drawings reflect her love of nature and the "verbs" added to each image on the T-shirts give a glimpse of Mills' sense of humor as well as her sense of purpose. Whatever your own sense of purpose, whether you splash, flirt, hug, or surf, she hopes you will enjoy a Mills Brown Ink shirt!
